There are a number of accommodation options for students who want to live on or close to campus. This accommodation varies in style, standard and cost.

However, it is important to remember that accommodation near the College is difficult to find at short notice. It is best to apply for accommodation six weeks or more before the start of your course. If possible, you should move to your new accommodation at least one week before classes commence to give you time to settle in.

About host families

If you choose homestay as your accommodation option in Australia, you will need to evaluate your expectations of what your family will be like. Australian families vary in size and cultural background. Homestay hosts often work during the week; however, in some families, there are people at home during the day. Many families have commitments during the evenings and/or on weekends (eg hobbies, sport and social activities); therefore, your hosts may not always be available to spend time with you. The food provided may also be different to the type of food you are accustomed to. You will need to be flexible and open to new experiences if choosing the homestay option.

Local newspapers and real estate agents advertise private and rental or board accommodation. This may be an option once you have settled into your course.

For assistance in locating information about these options, ask a UWSCollege Student Adviser.
